STUDENT VOICE
BSix places a very strong emphasis on the involvement of its students in the running and organisation of the College. Every tutor group elects a representative whose job it is to gather the opinions of their classmates and to communicate these to college management. Students can apply to become Learning Advocates who are trained to observe lessons and to undertake research. Many of our Learning Advocates have spoken at national conferences to college Principals, teachers and policy-makers. Students can also attend a Principal's Question Time to ask questions of, or to make suggestions to , senior management. There are also staff-student seminars where staff and students work together to discuss common issues facing the College. The Student Union meets regularly with senior managers. Our students will tell you that the College always listens and will do its utmost to respond to constructive and appropriate suggestions. Ofsted has called our approach "innovative" and "highly responsive". The College has also won a national award for its approach to student voice.
STUDENT UNION
BSix Students’ Union - Representing You
Each and every student attending BSix is a member of the BSix Students’ Union. The SU is made up of your peers, elected in the first term, to represent your interests and to organise social events for you at different times of the year.
The Students’ Union will keep you informed about everything going on in the college and about decisions affecting you. They will also raise issues and make suggestions on your behalf with senior college management and staff.
This year the Students’ Union will also organise a Christmas Talent Show & Party, a Valentines Ball and the annual end of year SU Prom.
There are many benefits to SU membership, but there are also a number of leadership opportunities available in the SU which can benefit your learning, CV and UCAS applications.
Each year the students of the college elect a number of people to the Students’ Union Executive to represent them. This year, the SU Executive will undertake a brand new leadership programme aimed at improving leadership skills and making the SU more effective to the benefit of all it’s members.
If you would like to get involved and run for a position on the Students’ Union please email Ian Power, a member of the BSeven team at ipower@bsix.ac.uk or enquire in the Student Experience Office located in the Canteen.
