Learning Resources Centre & IT Suite
The Learning Resources Centre (LRC) is a thriving, stimulating and welcoming place where you can work quietly in small groups or on your own. It is open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am until 7:00 pm and 8:30 am until 3:00 pm on Fridays.
You will have access to a range of up-to date resources, facilities and services:
- books, magazines, newspapers, audio tapes and DVD’s
- PCs which allow you access to the internet, networked CD ROMs and online resources
- printing and copying facilities
- study skills & revision help
The LRC has experienced staff to support your use of the computers and all the facilities.
IT Suite
The IT suite is a drop-in centre where you will be able to use computers to carry out research or to complete assignments in your own open time. It is managed by the LRC and there is always a member of staff available to support you. The IT Suite is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on Fridays.
All users have to observe the LRC & IT codes of conduct and adhere to the College IT policy. Access to pornographic, violent, racist or other inappropriate websites is blocked and e-mails are monitored to ensure that they do not contain anything offensive.
Language Lab - our lab is fully equipped with dictionaries, bilingual books, tapes and CD-ROMs, musical instruments as well as industry standard music technology equipment including eMacs, Korg X5 keyboards and logic software.
Science Labs - BSix’s three modern labs are equipped to industry standard.
Sports Hall - hosts practice and matches in basketball, football, netball, table-tennis, cricket, archery, badminton, gymnastics, gym & free weights area. We are affiliated to the SESSA League for Basketball & Football and run additional short courses in Netball Level 1, FA Level 1, Community Sports Leadership Awards, First aid, Child Protection and a programme for our Aim Higher Sports Ambassadors.
Gym – supervised by college staff, this is available for the use of all students between 9:00am -12:00pm & 1:00pm-6:30pm.
Media suites – our suites offer the latest digital technology and editing facilities, including an Apple Mac desktop publishing suite.
Music Technology Labs - The Music department boasts 2 specific MAC computer classrooms, enabling quality delivery of the Music Technology courses. We also have a state of the art recording studio; which provides realistic experiences and equips students with the necessary skills to move into careers within the industry. Additionally we have 3 practice rooms for music, giving individuals or small groups the space to practice live instruments and practice their DJ skills.
Theatre - the drama studio and our state of the art theatre provides a large teaching space as well as a performance venue that can seat up to 140 people. There is a full lighting rig and high quality sound system which is used for performances and assessments; this also provides students with hands-on experience in technical support roles during performances. This combined with our industry links gives students the highest standard of real-life experience within an educational establishment.
Student Study Centre - this peaceful facility is ideal for student/mentor meetings and quiet study and is staffed by student study support assistants.
Art and Design Workshops - the art and media department provides its students with a range academic courses and boasts state of the art facilities that are updated every year. Students are encouraged to work creatively and to distribute their work from within a professional studio context. We have 10 video Mac editing stations, a range of semi-professional and broadcast quality filming and lighting equipment and sound industry and higher education links. Our art facilities are equipped with all you need to explore textiles, digital art, 3D, painting and drawing and moving image work.
Our staff are experienced filmmakers and artists in their own right and our curriculum offer, updated every year to keep abreast of emerging trends in the creative industries, prioritises variety, dynamism and challenge.
