The Year of the Great Breakthrough:
Record Results at BSix - August 27th, 2008

Students and staff at BSix, the sixth form college in Kenninghall Road, Hackney, have hailed a step change in A Level results at the College. The statistics are staggering. There has been a 19% increase in the number of students obtaining high grades, A-C, and the pass rate has gone up by 10%. 14 subjects had a 100% pass rate and 7 students got straight grade As in three or more subjects.

One of this elite group is Melissa Abraham, who has left BSix with A grades in ‘A’ Level Maths, Further Maths, Law and Philosophy and, for good measure, another A in AS Religious Studies. Melissa, who is president of the Students Union and a member of the college’s governing body, says: “ I am absolutely thrilled. I have had a truly great college experience, obtained excellent results and now have memories to cherish for ever.” Melissa now plans to study Maths at Warwick University.

Another straight A student, Margaret-Mary Obodozie, is due to start a degree in Electronic Engineering at Imperial College in October. She is also full of praise for her teachers who were “always willing to help and encourage. I would never have done any of this without their support”.

“It is difficult to exaggerate the importance of this huge lift in performance”, says the college’s Principal, Ken Warman. “We have all been working so hard to make BSix a centre of excellence which opens up opportunities for young people in the East End”. With new and improving facilities, more and more services for students (including a free breakfast!) and outstanding teachers, the Principal sees these results as just the beginning. “There are so many great things going on at BSix”, Ken adds. “ 9 of our students and 4 of our staff have just returned from a week studying at Oxford University, for example. The College will go from strength to strength and, above all, we will make sure our students can compete for the best universities and jobs in the country. Make no mistake: BSix is the place to be – for students and teachers”
