Success Keeps Coming at BSix

For the second week running BSix is celebrating. After posting record results at advanced level, the College’s students on GCSE and GCSE-equivalent applied courses have maintained this momentum..

Top of the class is English GCSE which saw 82% of 109 students achieve grades A-C compared to a national average of 59%.One student, Shenika Susanya , actually achieved a perfect 100% in one exam.

This is the first year that the College has run a full GCSE re-sit course which it calls A2A (Access to Advanced). This offers a second chance to young people who just missed out on A-Cs at school or , indeed , did not take their GCSEs.

One such case is Allum Bokhari who arrived at BSix with no GCSE qualifications. Allum was such a star that he took a combination of GCSEs and AS levels, a year early. So, last week, he collected a grade in AS Politics, a B in History (scoring 98% in one exam) and a grade B in Critical Thinking. On the following Thursday he arrived at BSix to collect certificates revealing an A* in English, an A in Film Studies and a C in Maths. This was matched by Nayfeh Hasoun , who is an under 16 student and taking GCSEs for the first time. She obtained five A-Cs in one year, including an A in English , together with a C in AS Critical Thinking.

As well as GCSEs students at BSix can also take BTEC qualifications in work-related subjects which are the equivalent of five GCSEs at A-C. Here again BSix has excelled. 49 students took BTECs in Business , Health and Public Services. Of these an impressive 21 achieved Distinction* grades , meaning that none of their work fell below the highest grade possible.

“I cannot tell you how pleased we are with these achievements”, the College’s Principal Ken Warman explains. ”BSix offers courses at all levels , opening up routes to success for all young people , not just a selected few. These results mean that our students can go on to study at advanced level , either BTECs or A levels , and then go on to university and a meaningful career.

Our mission is to open up opportunities for all young people by expecting maximum effort and dedication. We are thrilled that so many are benefiting from this philosophy and from the quality of what we do.”
