BSix on top of the ALPS
BSix is, for the second year running, at the peak of ALPS. Not a mountain range in Switzerland but the A Level Performance System (ALPS). This system compares the advanced level results- BTEC National Diplomas as well as A Levels – for nearly 800 schools and colleges. It compares the performance of students after two years on an advanced course with their GCSE results. The difference is called value-added or ‘distance travelled’.
The report for BSix reveals some exceptionally good results. It rates the College’s performance at A Level in the summer 2009 as ‘excellent’. In particular, Communications and Culture and History are ranked among the top 3% in the country for value-added.
Similarly, on BTEC National Diplomas, the College has hit the heights. The report ranks the College’s performance on these courses as ‘outstanding’. Indeed, BSix is one of the top performing colleges for value-added and its teaching and learning on these courses is described as exceptional. The very highest scores were achieved by Applied Science, IT, Public Services and Sport.
“We are thrilled with these results”, says Ken Warman the College’s Principal. “The ALPS system compares our performance with some of the top-performing schools and colleges in the country, so these outcomes are a true testimony to the skill and effort of our staff and students. They vindicate our philosophy that, with outstanding teaching and real dedication, our young people can aim for the top and achieve the very best results”.
We are also pleased that his excellent performance is reproduced across all courses, including BTEC National Diplomas and A Levels, and across all departments in the College. High standards for all is the heart of BSix”.
