BSIX WINS NEW AWARD
BSix has just been awarded Investors in People. This is a national standard which judges the management and development of staff in organisations. The Report on BSix is absolutely glowing. An Assessor visited the College and interviewed many staff at all levels and studied relevant documents. The Assessor’s conclusions are then approved by a Panel which wrote to the College thus:
“The Panel would like to congratulate you on achieving the Investors in People Standard. Generally the Panel would pick out a few areas in the report where the organisation has excelled – in your case you have excelled in all areas and it is a credit to all the staff that you have achieved this. You should be very proud of your achievements”.
The Assessor was particularly impressed by how all staff are united in support of the College’s motto, ‘Aspire, Study, Achieve’, both for themselves and for the students. She noted that staff take great pride in being part of a successful organisation. They also value and appreciate the vast range of development opportunities available to all staff in the College. These include a free MA in Teaching and Learning for teachers and a Coaching Diploma, accredited by Middlesex University, for all staff. The Assessor concluded: “People frequently commented that at BSix they have been given opportunities that they would wait years for in other organisations”.
Highlights of the report include:
“The leadership and management of the College was recognised throughout the assessment by people at all levels as being inspirational and were often referred to as leading by example and role models”.
“Involvement, empowerment and autonomy are core to the Principal’s engagement strategy. Throughout the assessment people consistently commented that they generally have complete responsibility and ownership of their ideas and are fully supported to put these into practice, providing that they contribute to student achievement, organisational and personal objectives”.
“People spoke with genuine enthusiasm for what the organisation is aiming to achieve”.
“There is a sense of pride in working for the organisation – this was evident throughout the discussions. People like to be associated with a successful organisation that has had to work hard to achieve its success which they have been part of”.
“People consistently explained that they know they make a difference to the success of the organisation and that they feel valued and recognised for their contribution”.
“Throughout the assessment people referred to ‘the work ethic’. The Assessor explored this and people described this as:
- Going the extra mile
- Having a good knowledge base
- Seeing a job through and making it work
- Having a genuine desire and the ability to do the best for the students, parents and BSix”
“We are absolutely thrilled with this report”, says the College’s Principal Ken Warman. “The great thing is that we did not prepare for the visit of the Assessor. We felt confident about what our staff would say because we don’t make claims that we can’t substantiate. It is great for the College, its staff and students, to receive such national recognition. They deserve every accolade they receive”.
