Bsix College Students are Olympic Legacy Champions
The Legacy Champions is a joint-initiative pioneered through a partnership of colleges - BSix Sixth Form College, Greenwich Community College, Hackney Community College, Leyton Sixth Form College, Newham College of Further Education, Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc), Sir George Monoux College, Tower Hamlets College and Waltham Forest College.
Students from Bsix College helped launch this project on Monday 22nd February at Stratford Circus. On this day our Legacy champions met with a representative from the Olympic Park Legacy Company in a workshop which they were able to express their opinion about the plan to redevelop the Olympic Park into affordable housing, retail, and open spaces. Later in the day, the champions went to the view tube, to see the Olympic site, and Lee Hunter got the opportunity to go on a bus tour of the Olympic Park courtesy of the Olympic Park Legacy Company. During the course of the day, the students got to meet inspirational speakers like 4 time Olympian Dervis Konuralp, 6 times Olympian Tessa Sanderson, and Head of Education Nick Fuller. The day was a success!
As Legacy Champions, these students will pioneer the legacy of the Olympic Games to their peers, remind other students within the college of the importance of sports, organise fun and educational activities to attract the students; get the opportunity to meet dignitaries, and air their opinions about the change going on in their community. Indeed, this is not a role for the faint hearted! Legacy Champion Tarick Amin El Filali from Bsix College commented that “It is an honour to be selected as a Legacy Champion as it’s a great way to be involved and represent what we want from the games. As a legacy champion, I have this amazing opportunity to inspire my peers to take advantage of the opportunities the Games present.”
