The Petchey Academy: Official Partner School of BSix Sixth Form College
Since earlier this year BSix College and The Petchey Academy have been working together to develop a progression compact for the benefit of their students to ensure that all their Y11’s are able to access a suitable course at Post-16. This has recently been formalised into a partnership following on from The Petchey’s launch of their own Sixth Form provision, “The University Gateway.”
On Tuesday, 16th November The Petchey Academy invited Ken Warman, Principal of BSix and Rebekah Harris, External Relations and Recruitment Manager to their school to meet with their Principal, Olivia Cole, Chair of Governors, Andrew Billington and Vice Principal, Jo Rainey for the official signing ceremony to seal the progression compact agreement. The Petchey Academy chose to celebrate and mark this occasion by providing a top class three course lunch prepared by their own students and most notably, Donovan Gilbert-Smith who is the East London finalist in “Future Chef 2011!”
In addition to the signing of the Partner School certificates, the event also provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss and develop further ideas including the potential for partner schools to access elements of the College’s “BSeven – Extended Learning Beyond the Classroom” activities. For example, sharing best practice on Student Voice, visits to hear the Politics Club series of guest speakers and developing a student mentoring programme. This was met with enthusiasm and is another example of the benefits of working collaboratively.
Ken Warman stated that “The Petchey Academy is an example of an institution that has the best interests of their students at the heart of everything that they do. I look forward to the development and strengthening of this partnership as we all work to ensure that the young people of Hackney get the best starts for their future."
