BSix catering re-launched

BSix has re-launched its catering services for staff and students. Previously, this had been contracted out to outside companies. From now on it will be run directly by the College as part of BSeven, the internal organisation responsible for promoting learning beyond the classroom.

This re-launch is being overseen by Amar Ahluwalia, a management consultant. Mr Ahluwalia is known as the “pundat” or guru of restaurants among the London restaurant community. He has set up , owned and managed a whole range of restaurants including Indian, Italian, French and Greek since 1981.These have included “C’est bon” ,a French restaurant and wine bar in Fulham ; the “Amar Brasserie” and “Geetanjali” , Indian restaurants in west London ; “Pizza Parlour” , an Italian restaurant in Rayners Lane ; “Kebab Land” , a Greek restaurant also in west London ; and “Sakoni” , a vegetarian restaurant in Ealing.. Not content with this, Mr Ahluwalia has opened, owned and managed a restaurant in San Diego in the USA and has been responsible for training top chefs.

Mr Ahluwalia has won many accolades including being awarded Top Five Restaurant in London status by “Time Out” magazine and winning best restaurant in London for two consecutive years. He has also featured in the Good Food Guide and in Charles Campion’s book, “Meat on Fire”. Charles Campion has also written about his work in “The Evening Standard” and it has been featured in “The Guardian Magazine”.

“I am very excited by this project,” says Mr Ahluwalia,” I am keen to make catering contribute to the central objective of BSix which is to raise achievement and standards for both students and staff. Food is at the heart of this. My aim will be to promote healthy eating at a reasonable price and with good, friendly service.”

He goes on to add: “I am looking forward to serving the needs of the College and demonstrating the importance of food in meeting its objectives. For example , I have plans to run , in the near future , classes for our students who are about to leave for university or independent living , so that they are able to prepare good food within a budget and are therefore ready , in the round , for their future.”

Bob Herring, the College’s premises manager who is closely involved, is equally excited by this change. ”I believe very strongly that our staff and students deserve the very best and that includes our services as well as the classroom. This is a great opportunity for the College to make another path-breaking change in the world of education.”

“We are delighted to welcome Mr Ahluwalia to BSix,”
BSix Principal Ken Warman concludes. “His vast experience and skill are second to none and we are very fortunate to have him here. The College has built a growing reputation for high standards and a commitment to innovation in order to achieve our goal of nurturing the all-round development of young people. We are making BSix a centre of excellence in all that it does. Mr Ahluwalia’s arrival marks another significant step in the realisation of that ambition.”
