BSix Sixth Form College holds an Open day with a Difference!

BSix held its' first ever Student-led Open day on Saturday 10th March to rave reviews from visitors.

The Student Voice at BSix is a central part of college life. The Student Union, Student Ambassadors, Learning Advocates and class representatives all contribute to ensuring that student's ideas and opinions are heard. The College has gained a reputation nationally due to activities like the student-led EMA campaign and Learning Advocates speaking at national conferences about the Student-led Inspection.

Student Ambassadors have always supported Open days as part of their role; and they always give us feedback afterwards as to what they thought worked well & what we could try differently next time… So, we thought the logical next step was to hand the responsibility over to our students to actually plan, organise and run our next Open day – a wonderful role reversal as the staff became the ones supporting our future leaders!

The event was publicised and the Student Union helped to coordinate two key meetings to develop new ideas and to share out the various roles for the day. Student alumni were contacted via our Facebook page to attend the event to give talks and/or to perform.

The Open day was a great triumph with a fantastic high attendance of visitors. Our Student Ambassadors had successfully created a new & improved version of the BSix Open day… Popular new ideas included were the use of a college map for visitors, subject presentations as part of the guided tours, Student talks, alumni talks and a range of performances in the theatre, demonstrations of DJ skills and the Green car, Raising aspirations talks along with Model UN practice (in the Red Room!) and video filmed feedback to finish off!

And now a little data, because we love data here at BSix…
100% of visitors rated the experience as Good to Outstanding
100% said they had either already applied or were planning to apply to BSix (61% already applied & 39% yet to)… We're looking out for those of you yet to apply & will be in contact with your interview date very soon.
And 100%... drum roll… said they would recommend us to someone else!

So sincere congratulations to all students who were involved with the planning, organisation & efficient running of the day. Visitors commented on your professionalism and it was certainly a pleasure to work with you all!

Next Open event will be our "Student Showcase Day" which will be held on Saturday 30th June from 10am – 2pm.
