Science induction at BSix
As part of the Science and Maths induction programme at BSix students had the opportunity to work with the Medical Mavericks team, the live stage show that introduces students to alternative careers in the NHS. The show includes amazing live demos where Medical Mavericks performs medical procedures on volunteers from the audience and shows them awesome video footage of the inside of the body.
Later, in the Sports Hall students were able to take on Olympic sprinters via the accelerator, take an ECG recording of heart rate, ultrasound of organs of the body and tested their reaction rates on the Batak wall.
Students also had the opportunity to encounter and hold a menagerie of reptiles and other organisms; Including Mshamba the sixteen foot Burmese python, Rosy the Chilean rose tarantula, Bertie the Milk snake, Sogora the Royal Python, some scorpions and a range of stick insects. Which were kindly brought on the Bus in a suitcase by Paul Newham from Ivydale Science & Technology Service.
The day was a great hit and marks the start of new era for Science and Maths at BSix.
