A2 Level: French, Spanish and Turkish

Introduction
Do you want to live and work in another country during your lifetime? Do you want to make friends who live in other countries or simply want to express yourself fully in more than one language? Would you be interested in a career in interpreting and translation, travel and tourism or international business? The way to do this is to do a language at advanced level. The course encourages you to extend your language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and gives you an understanding of topical issues relating to the target language and the different countries where the target language is spoken.

For students whose first language is French, Spanish, Polish or Turkish, studying a language at this level shows that you can speak, read and write intelligently and fluently in your own language, and engage with social and cultural issues relevant to the countries in which your native language is spoken. Gaining an advanced qualification is therefore potentially very valuable, especially if you want to use your native language in your future career. It can also count towards university entry.

What will I be doing?

  • You will use more sophisticated language by discussing and studying contemporary social and cultural issues
  • You will learn to express your character and personality more forcefully, and be able to join in both culturally and socially (for example, A2 Turkish students will be studying two novels).

How will I be assessed?

  • A2 French, Spanish and Polish is made up of 2 exams: one reading, writing and listening paper and one oral exam
  • A2 Turkish is made up of one exam covering reading, writing and listening; there is no oral exam
  • Assessments from AS Level (first year) contribute towards the final award of A2 Level.

Where do I go from here?

  • University to study languages or any career which involves languages
  • A career in law, business, or travel and tourism
  • Any job or career in another country where your specialist language is spoken
  • A2 in a language can also help you into employment in the public services as an interpreter, where you can continue to achieve the full interpreter’s qualification.

Entry requirements
