BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health &
Social Care

BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care is designed to provide a general introduction to working in the health and social care sector and to develop your knowledge and understanding through class activities and the workplace. 

This qualification will allow you to move into employment within the care industry. If you progress to complete the level 3 qualification you would have the option to enter university to study Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Occupational Therapy and other related courses such as Social Work, Criminology, and Youth Work.

What can I do after this course?
The course offers opportunities for accessing further study, for example the BTEC level 3, 90 credit Diploma in Health & Social Care. This is the best route if you are planning to progress to Higher education in the future. You can also choose to go into employment in a relevant sector.

What will I study?
On this one year course you will be studying two core units, two additional mandatory units and a choice of optional units. Some of the units will be assessed by your teachers (internal) and others will be set and marked externally.

How is the course taught?
This course is taught through a mixture of interactive lectures, individual and group activities, practical activities, discussions and presentations as well as work experience.

Progression:
On successful completion of the level 2 qualification, you can progress to employment or continue your study in the same, or related vocational area such as Health and Social Care Level 3.

Recommended Reading:
Course books are required, which can be borrowed for a whole year from the library.

Teachers

There are six full time- teachers in the department who teach on the course. Some of the teachers have been graded outstanding. Each member of the team has extensive industry and teaching experience. You will have your personal tutor who will also be one of your teachers.
