Level 2 First Diploma for ICT Practitioners

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a one year full time course that provides students with the skills to progress to further study on qualifications such as the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT and ultimately into the IT employment sector. It is equivalent to four GCSEs.

This new revised qualification has embedded units from the Business and Creative Media Production qualifications. It will give students the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques as well as personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in both their academic and their working life.

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in IT is a 60-credit and 360-guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of 3 compulsory units (20 credits) plus optional units (40credits) that provide for a combined total of 60 credits.

Compulsory units (3 units = 20 credits):

• Communicating in the IT Industry
• Working in the IT Industry
• Computer Systems

Optional units (4 units = 40 credits)

• Database Systems
• Website Development
• Digital Graphics
• Spreadsheet Modeling

You need 4 GCSEs at Grade D, including either English or Maths.
