About The Course
A-level Art & Design covers a wide range of skills such as drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture but extends them through more rigorous and extended levels of experimentation and research. The course is a general Art & Design endorsement, so you can choose to take the set projects into any area of Art & Design that you wish. Art & Design is both a practical and academic subject, where you will develop your personal direction as an artist or designer through observation, experimentation and realisation.
How Is The Course Taught?
You will be taught by tutors with industry experience and taught in our dedicated facilities including iMac suites, photography and art studios – an open-plan space that encourages ideas sharing between students. The course is comprised of taught lessons, practical workshops, independent study, seminars, group critiques and presentations. You will be expected to work with increasing independence, bringing your own ideas, creative style and a professional attitude to your studies.
How will I be Assessed?
The course is comprised of multiple projects over the two years. These projects are concluded with an assessment that can include a submission of work, presentation or an exam. These projects are internally assessed by your tutors. The final project of your second year is externally moderated by the exam board.
What does it lead to?
This course is suitable for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the creative industries including Architecture, Fine Art, Graphics, Visual Communication, Fashion and Textiles, Illustration, Sculpture and 3D practices, Product Design, Set Design and Arts Management, which could enable you to earn between £30,000 – £60,000 per year. After this course, you can progress onto the Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, a degree at university, or onto a creative apprenticeship.
