About The Course

A Level Media Studies provides you with the tools to explore, understand and analyse a range of media texts and forms. We will teach you how to read media texts so that you can investigate established and evolving forms of media. You will assess the changing mediascape and the impact on relationships between audience and producers and how the media helps shape our ideas about contemporary culture and society.

How Is The Course Taught?

The course offers you the chance to explore your creativity with the possibility of creating print, online and audio-visual products over two years for your coursework unit, which will take place in an iMac suite and assisted by media technicians with industry experience. In addition to this exciting creative opportunity, there will be two exam-based units that are taught mainly in a classroom setting.  

How will I be Assessed?

At the end of two years, you will sit two exams and produce one piece of coursework: Component 1 – Media Products, Industries and Audiences; Component 2 – Media Forms and Products in Depth; Component 3 – Cross-Media Production (Coursework).  

What does it lead to?

On completion of this course, you could pursue a range of careers including Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations and a range of roles in video/TV/film production as well as the expanding social media landscape. Web design and development professionals earn an average salary of £33,280.
