About The Course

This exciting course offers you the opportunity to develop the knowledge and practical skills needed for future work in business and industry. It will help you to develop essential skills for the world of business such as finance, marketing, e-commerce, customer service, IT, numeracy, communication, teamwork and other transferable skills. Equivalent to 2 GCSEs, this course is made up of various core, mandatory and optional units offered within the context of the unique BSix Study Programme which also includes Maths and English, enrichment and career education – all supported by a strong tutorial programme.

How Is The Course Taught?

The course is taught in small-medium class sizes using a combination of lectures, role plays, discussions, presentations, workshops and practical activities, conducted mainly in specialist IT suites dedicated to Business students. Learners are encouraged to pursue independent learning activities both inside and outside the college such as visiting local stores and carrying out market research. The course is enriched by exciting activities such as a study trip to a Premier League football club and to a major banking or accounting firm and by visits by guest speakers from the business sector. You will also be going to firms in the city to learn about employability.

How will I be Assessed?

The course is assessed using a range of methods including 2 exam-based units which are marked externally – one is a written exam in marketing, the other an on-screen exam in business finance. The learner needs to answer the exam questions satisfactorily to reach required pass marks for a L2 Pass, Merit or Distinction.  There are also 6 coursework-based units with assignments which are set and marked by your teachers.  In these units, the learner will be given a range of tasks based on real life situations which they will need to complete successfully to achieve a L2 Pass, Merit or Distinction in each unit.

What does it lead to?

Learners who successfully complete the programme can either proceed to a Level 3 Business qualification, go for an apprenticeship or get into full time work as a customer service specialist, office administrator, sales assistant or other entry level roles in business administration and retail.
