About The Course

This course is designed for anyone who has not been taught science before and wishes to progress onto GCSE Science.

This is suitable for candidates who have recently relocated from another country and who want to improve their English and Maths skills, whilst brushing up on the science they have already covered in the new context of another country.

You will cover topics within Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and will give you the foundation of knowledge to then go on to study these subjects at GCSE.

How Is The Course Taught?

The course is taught through a mixture of theoretical sessions, and then applying this understanding in the context of completing experiments to test this understanding.

You will be taught in well-equipped labs, serviced by two very experienced and supportive technicians, who complete the science team in helping you explore the world of science and what potential fields you could specialise in later in your academic career.

How will I be Assessed?

There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the year to test the level of understanding you have informally, through the end of topic tests. These will help you to understand where you are, and what you need to do to improve.

The qualification is exam-based, and you will take these formal exams at set times during the school year, with opportunities to retake provided as and when needed.

What does it lead to?

Once you have completed this program of study, you will be ready to take the GCSE entrance test. This will determine if you take the combined double science course, or the triple separate sciences the following school year.

Both of these courses will then lead you onto either the A levels or Applied science new specification. From this, you may then go into an apprenticeship or go on to higher education at university.

This course can also lead you to a range of higher-level apprenticeships in the animal care, beauty, healthcare and laboratory industry sectors.
