Manchester University meets BSix students
22 May 18 ● 2 years ago
Six students were able to experience the life of an Oxford University undergraduate through undertaking the Pembroke programme as part of the Hackney University Extension Programme (HUE) run by BSix College. This programme enables Y12 students across the borough to work with leading universities to experience university-style courses and preparation.
The students had already completed phase 1, which involved attending seminars hosted by Oxford University lecturers at Citibank. Manchester University was Phase 2, which enabled the students to attend the Easter residential seminars and participate in a wide range of subjects with their Manchester peers.
The Easter programme, enabled the students to gain experience of university subject materials as well as to gain an opportunity to build and forge new relationships with other students who share similar academic interests, and identify and understand the tools needed to progress to undergraduate courses.
The students thoroughly enjoyed experiencing University life and also embraced the opportunity of traveling outside of London. The students are also looking forward to the residential summer programme taking place at Oxford University – so watch this space.
Student’s feedback about the Easter conference was overwhelmingly positive:
“It was a great experience, allowing us to broaden our horizons.”
“I found it challenging at first, due to working with the Manchester students; but after working with them on our presentation projects, I was glad that I was pushed out of my comfort zone as we had to work in different groups due to the subjects that we chose to study. I am usually very shy when meeting new people; but due to working with different students, I now realise that it is not as difficult as I first thought”
“I enjoyed everything. Travelling, spending time with friends and meeting and working with Oxford University lecturers was awesome”
