Urban Plan employability day and competition at BSix
Urban Planning workshop and competition at BSix
Well done to Leonard Calcott, Christine Kgautlhe, Fatima Aminu, Sulaiman Mohammed, Meryem Ulgur and Arafat Hossain, the team who won the Urban Planning competition organised at BSix by the Urban Land Institute on 29th November 2018.
Their prize is lunch and networking opportunities at the City Hall in July; the hottest ticket in town, but I can’t promise Sadiq Khan will be attending!
A-Level Business students worked in teams to create impressive 3D models of an urban regeneration project. Then they submitted bids, with 5-minute presentations by the six participating teams. The judging panel, which included a property lawyer, a university lecturer, a graduate asset manager, a design architect, and head of sustainability and CSR, were very impressed with all the six tenders as well as the level of focus and the attention to detail of the competing teams. A great interactive, real-life, employability day for students; all of whom were a great credit to the college!
The students’ feedback was excellent and included positive comments such as, ‘I feel more confident in presenting’ and ‘I feel I developed more confidence as well as teamwork skills.’ All students appreciated and benefitted from the experts’ careers advice.
A-Level Business teacher, Cheikh Zekraoui, who organised the event said that, ‘Urban Plan are an amazing organisation who have developed such a successful programme which vastly enhances the curriculum, students’ knowledge and understanding and their ability to use their knowledge in a real-life situation.’
