About The Course

This course will introduce you to core Music Performance and Production skills in composition, popular music performance, sound recording and DJing. You will develop skills in music theory and music technology which will provide you with the underpinning knowledge and skill set to progress on to Level 3. You will have many work-related learning opportunities during the course to enhance your future employability including participation in the annual Creative Industries, ‘Roots Festival’.

How Is The Course Taught?

The course is taught through a combination of classroom delivery, studio sessions, creative production workshops, live performance rehearsal and live gigs in a variety of local venues. You will be taught be two teachers, both of whom still work as producers and performing musicians. We work closely with several industry practitioners including, producers, session musicians, music managers, studio engineers and recording artists. We also work with Sony’s production library Extreme music and have placed a number of our students’ compositions in MTV and BBC TV shows. 

How will I be Assessed?

The qualification is 100% coursework which is internally assessed, with the final major project in the summer term externally moderated by the awarding body. You will be given supportive feedback from tutors which you will use to develop and improve your skills. Assessment evidence can be generated in a written and/or video diary form. Gigs, rehearsals and studio sessions will also form part of your assessment evidence. 

What does it lead to?

Once you have successfully completed the programme you can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Music Performance and Production. Possible jobs you could progress to after further study include: Session Musician, Music Manager or a DJ and could earn between £42,000 – £80,000 per annum.
