About the course

During the course you will develop the theory and practical-based skills needed to progress within the sporting industry. You will be developing your understanding of anatomy and physiology, applied psychology and research methods.  Alongside your course you will have the exciting opportunity to be a part of the West Ham FC academy.  Enabling you to take part in weekly training and matches.

How is the course taught?

The course will be taught within a variety of learning environments. Using a mixture of classrooms, computer suits, gym suits, labs and sports hall. There is one full time and one part-time teacher on this course.  Part of the course contains outdoor pursuits that enables students to participate in trips such as surfing in France and basketball games to the copper box stadium.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via a combination of written coursework, observations during practical tasks and presentations. The course is comprised of seven units (of which 2 are exam based) in the first year and seven units (of which 2 are external exam based) in the second year.

What does it lead to?

After completing the course, level 3 graduates go on to study at variety of university courses within the sports sector. These degrees range from physiotherapy, sports coaching, occupational therapy, sports rehabilitation, sports journalism, or to train as a PE teacher.  Some of our students may take the apprenticeship route which can lead to employment.

Typically, students go on to become physiotherapists earning around £35,000 a year. Fitness instructors can start on around £22,000 and coaches, instructors and officials average at £28,000.
